Ever since watching Colin Mcrae at Silverstone on a freezing cold November morning I have dreamed of driving a Subaru Impreza. This weekend I did that and 4 other performance cars as well!

I turned 21 in September and was extremely chuffed when I opened a voucher entitling me to a Performance Super Car Experience at Heyford Park. Not only did I get a 2 and 3 quarter hour lie in (6.45) but I also got to drive a;
Ferraris F355
Porsche 911 Carrera
Audi RS4
Lotus Elise
and a Prodrive built, world rally spec, Subaru Impreza

I started off in a Vauxhall Astra kited out with a hydraulic handbrake doing J-Turns (Reverse 180's) and handbrake turns. I didn't end up in the grass like some people thanks to the practice in the post van. In the time it took me to do this someone had already managed to spin the Elise so I took it a bit easy round the corners in this lightweight pocket rocket of a car. In total contrast to the Elise the 911 was loaded with sumptuous leather seats and gadgets. Sitting in a comfy chair whilst the world goes by at 140 MPH is the way I'd like to live out my retirement.

The F355 was total boy racer heaven with stripped out interior and metal 'clinking' gear box. Certainly one of my favorite cars there but it was a challenge changing from 2nd to 3rd! The Subaru Impreza doesn't need describing! I was in awe from the sight of it and the drive was absolutely awesome. Some found it's breaking lacking as it is tuned for rallying on gravel but who needs to break when there are acres of runway to tear up! They had taken the bosses labradors out of the RS4 which was good because I kept hitting the rev limiter they had set at 5.5k. Looking at the road and the rev's was difficult but I managed to get one or two decent run's in it.

Pictures are in my gallery and I have a video of part of my blast in the F355 in my media section. It was one of the best day's of my life and one I will never forget. There were 60 year old men with faces like children at christmas.

My jaws were aching from the grinning as I watched Oxford get back to winning ways with a 2-1 win over Tamworth. Another belter from super Matty Day from 40 yards being the highlight. Dagenham are still putting pressure on us at the top of the Confrence table as they came back from behind twice to beat York 3-2.

What is wrong with British TV and film?
Yesterday I picked Tara up from work in Oxford and we went to watch 'Starter for 10' taking advantage of the Orange Wednesday's 2 for 1 offer.

I am so glad we did not pay full whack for this because the film was the worst film I have seen at the cinema since 'Bowfinger'. The audience was much the same, a mature audience that laughed at loud at the most predictable comedy. I was expecting better because it stars James McAvoy (middle-class car thief in Shameless) and I expect if he was American he would have received a much better script and budget.

The Worst Film Ever

The story line was as boring and predictable as the comedy a stark contrast to 'Borat' which we saw a week previously. This was a quality film and great taking the proverbial out of the Americans. Great publicity for him that some of the unsuspecting stars are now going to sue him. He still had to do a massive amount of work in America to publicise the film and if it wasn't set in America they wouldn't be bothered.

It seems that America can't do anything wrong when bringing their programmers over to England. The media hype things up and we automatically accept it. Lost, Sex in the City and Desperate Housewives get the backing that UK television does not. And if we take our programmers over there they wouldn't care less. Things like The Office have been a hit but only after using American actors!

The truth is they wouldn't get half our comedy and drama. They like to fill there screens with beauty and bling, aspiring to life in suburbia. They wouldn't be interested in a housing estate in Manchester because they aren't going to be any good at selling cosmetic surgery afterwards.

Shameless - They just wouldn't get it

Now to hear that 'Sorted' isn't getting another series. What a joke that a successful series is being replaced by yet more reality TV. It seems TV bosses aren't allowing programs time to grow and develop nowadays. Harry Enfield's first series was trash but in the next few it quickly became a cult comedy of it's decade. Short term fixes are alright but I can't see any new prime time Drama's run as long as Morse or similar.

Personally I don't watch much TV now apart from live Sport. If there is something good on I will download and watch it at my leisure. Very little American TV appeals to me in particular Lost and it seems that some are starting to realise that is dragging out over series for commercial reasons.

I wish TV bosses would stop paying large amounts for american TV and instead support the decent British actor's we have for the time being. It used to be that to make it in Media you had to move to London. Soon our talent will move to America and we will have no 'celebrities' for our reality TV.

The Future of TV

Well it's pouring with rain outside. What else would it be pouring with? So I am having a play around with my photo's, Photoshop and Dreamweaver to create a new web site.

The above photo was taken in the Cotswold's more of which you can see in my Gallery. Being a boy I like my toy's and I recently purchased a Nikon D70 with a Tamron lens so I enjoy whipping it out when the missus allows.

We have been lucky enough to visit some interesting places together. We have traveled to places most people wouldn't dream of going to like Carlisle and Dagenham but more recently we spent a week in Paris. Being a postman I have a fair amount of spare time but a week holiday with Tara had been a long time coming.

Sunset from the Effiel Tower

I enjoy following Oxford United away as I get to see some nice scenery and equally some horrid places. They make me appreciate how fortunate I am to have enjoyable job and beautiful girlfriend. Having said that my job is just that, a job. It is certainly not a career and I don't expect to be there in forty years.

I am in somewhat of a comfort zone at the moment. Work was physically challenging to begin with but I am now fitter and stronger and only curse at my alarm clock when I'm having a good dream. It gives me the afternoons off to travel over to Oxford to visit Tara and watch football. The pay is more than I need, allowing me to spend too much on toys.

Some of you may know my mother passed away earlier this year. I joined Royal Mail part way through her third and final battle against cancer. It was ideal because I was able to help out caring for my mum yet, admitedly rather selfishly, escape the responsibility of full time carer. My Dad was able to work from home and his work were excellent for allowing him to take many month's off. I have massive respect for the puclic sector and civil service for the way they protect their employees.

I used to defiantly want to go into IT developing web sites or computer support and I do not rule this out still though I do not think I could stand working 9 to 5 staring at a computer screen all day long. Computing is something I enjoy and I would hate for it to become a chore and ruin the fun parts of computing.

I am thinking about joining the Police. It has so many opportunities from computing crime to Traffic and I would relish having to deal with many differently challenging situations. Like my current job I would be able to be outdoors, at least for some of the time, and rather boringly it is the only pension better than Royal Mail's. I really need to jump in and apply because I need a new challenge!

I hope this wasn't too philosophical or boring for you but 'MySpace' looks cack in my opinion. I hope you are all well and enjoying uni/working life. If you want to catch up, or just to let me know what you are doing, please click contact.
